Day 1: Arusha/Moshi to Umbwe Gate (1,640m) – Umbwe Camp (2,850m)
Your adventure starts with an early morning pick-up from your hotel, followed by a scenic drive to the Umbwe Gate. Here, you will complete the necessary registration before beginning your trek. The initial hike takes you through the lush rainforest, where you’ll encounter towering trees and an array of wildlife, including birds and monkeys. The trail is steep, gaining altitude quickly, which adds to the challenge but also rewards you with stunning views. After approximately 5-7 hours of trekking, you will reach Umbwe Camp, where you can relax, enjoy a warm meal, and soak in the natural beauty around you.

After breakfast, you’ll set out for Barafu Camp, your final campsite before the summit attempt. This is an important day for acclimatization, so you’ll arrive at the camp in the early afternoon, giving you time to rest, hydrate, and prepare for the upcoming summit attempt. Dinner will be served early as you’ll need to wake up in the early hours to begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak.

Day 5: Barafu Camp (4,640m) to Uhuru Peak (5,895m) – Mweka Camp (3,100m)

The trek involves navigating steep scree and rocky paths in the dark, with headlamps lighting your way. The climb typically takes 6-8 hours. As you approach Stella Point, you’ll be greeted by a breathtaking sunrise over the horizon, illuminating the stunning landscape below. After reaching Uhuru Peak, you’ll have time for celebration and photographs before beginning your descent back to Barafu Camp for a short break.
From Barafu, you’ll continue your descent to Mweka Camp, where you’ll spend the night. This descent takes about 6-7 hours through lush rainforest, where you can enjoy the vibrant flora and fauna.
